Big Bend Telephone Company Scholarship Program |
Big Bend Telephone Company, Inc., of Alpine has established a scholarship program for a graduating senior from one of the high schools in the company’s service region. Graduating seniors from Comstock High School, Presidio High School, Sanderson High School, and Big Bend High School who plan to attend Sul Ross State University are eligible for this important scholarship. The program provides an opportunity for each high school to nominate one outstanding graduating senior for the Big Bend Telephone Company Scholarship award each year. The Sul Ross State University Scholarship Committee will then choose one recipient from the nominees to be the Big Bend Telephone Company Scholar.
This program was established by Big Bend Telephone Company as evidence of its commitment to serve the needs of Southwest Texas, its interest in the continuing growth and development of the region, and its belief in education as an essential revitalizing force in the region. Big Bend Telephone Company serves over 18,000 square miles in eight Southwest Texas counties. The company is headquartered in Alpine, the home of Sul Ross State University.
 Sul Ross State University is a state-supported four year university with graduate offerings in several areas. The University is accredited by the Southern Association of College and Schools.
General Information
Generally, the scholarship nomination goes to an outstanding graduating senior who plans to attend Sul Ross State University. The criteria for selecting a nominee for the award is established by the individual high school. For the student to receive the award, he or she must be eligible for unconditional admission to Sul Ross State University and enroll for the fall semester as a full-time student. There will normally be one nominee for a Big Bend Telephone Company Scholarship each year submitted by each high school. The nomination must be forwarded by the authorized school official, on the form provided, to President’s Office, Sul Ross State University, Box C-114, Alpine, Texas 79832.
This scholarship program was established by Big Bend Telephone Company and its continuation is wholly dependent upon the continued support of Big Bend Telephone Company. The cancellation of the program by the company will occur only in the interest of regulatory compliance or the sound financial management of the company.
